Mountains
John has
been a climber since a young school boy. Having
gravitated through ice climbing on the notorious
North face of Ben Nevis, he graduated to the Alps.
In 1983 , he achieve his ultimate ambition as a
young man – to climb the Matterhorn.
Restless for bigger challenges, he selected and
trained a team of 14 novice police climbers and led
them on a Himalayan Expedition to put up a first
British ascent of Jogin 1 and Jogin in a remote
corner of the Uttar Pradesh, far up near the source
of the river Ganges. The story of their climb was
captured on an award winning film for the BBC.
